Program Eligibility & Application Process

Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following qualifications to be eligible for appointment to an ACGME-accredited program:

All required clinical education for entry into ACGME accredited fellowship programs must be completed in an ACGME-accredited residency program. The program must receive verification of each entering fellow’s level of competency in the required field using ACGME Milestones assessments from the core residency program (CPR III.A.2). The program and the American Board of Anesthesiology does not grant exceptions to the fellowship eligibility requirements.

Candidates must ensure they are eligible for a New York State provider license, be authorized to work in the United States at the time of appointment and meet applicable essential abilities requirements of the program.

Visas
The Pain Medicine Fellowship Program does not sponsor visas at this time, so all applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.

Application via ERAS
Residents who wish to apply for the Northwell/SPNY Anesthesiology Fellowship must apply online through Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). The application deadline for the academic year is July 30 of the prior year.

  • Applicants must be ABMS board eligible by the July 1st start date in a parent specialty, e.g., anesthesiology, PM&R, psychiatry and neurology, emergency medicine, radiology, or family medicine.
  • The pain medicine fellowship is listed as a subspecialty of anesthesiology
  • The ERAS application should be comprehensive to be competitive, as all information submitted will be considered.
    • In addition to the CV, other materials must include the medical school transcript and USMLE and/or COMLEX scores.
    • The application must include at least three (3) letters of reference. (One of these letters must be from your current or past residency program director)

  • Do not send extra documents via email or mail, as they are not required and will not be considered.
